To supply, install and maintain 260 x-ray scanners globally and train staff at each location.

The customer: HM Government Foreign & Commonwealth Offices (FCO) operates the property infrastructure of British Embassies and Consulates around the world.

The requirement: FCO invited tenders to supply their requirements for security x-ray scanning over a three year rollout. The installed units would then be supported by a seven year maintenance contract, ensuring high levels of customer usability and conformance with UK Ionising Radiations Regulations. They wished to appoint a supplier who could demonstrate that they had products with advanced technology to detect current threats, the ability to deliver in the volumes required and a robust support infrastructure. A thorough evaluation was conducted by FCO covering product capabilities and the service support that could be provided.

The Todd Research (TR) solution: TR specified their TR15 (cabinet scanner) and TR70 (conveyor scanner) to fulfil the contract. Installation and maintenance would be provided by TR Engineers and/or subcontractor partners. Other value adding solutions were offered including; CD-Rom Trainer, the Todd Enterprise Security Solution (TESS) and online asset management tool to allow online access to data on the installed equipment.

The rollout of units was actually completed in two years. Shipping of units was completed by TR, direct to Posts, with various equipment upgrades/changes being made during the roll out. After confirmation that the unit has arrived at the Post, responsibility is handed to the nominated TR Engineer who contacts the Post to confirm a suitable time for installation and operator training. After ‘Acceptance’ by the Post, ‘Conformance’ documentation is provided to the Post to ensure their compliance. Helpdesk assistance is provided by TR to every Post after installation and full maintenance cover is provided.
