A suspicious package sent to a Royal Navy base near Portsmouth sparked a false alarm.
A bomb disposal unit arrived at the base in Fareham, Hampshire, to deal with what sources described as a suspicious package.
The incident was later declared a false alarm.
It followed an emergency meeting of the government’s Cobra committee on Thursday after a string of crude but potentially explosive devices were mailed to seven armed forces recruitment offices in southeast England.
